Baby Basics

Sheffield Baby Basics is a project set up in the spring of 2009 dedicated to helping and providing basic support to pregnant and new mums who are left with little or nothing just before and after they give birth.

We provide basic products and equipment to vulnerable women in Sheffield including those seeking asylum, refugees, the homeless and teenage mothers, mainly introduced to us through the midwifery and health visitor services in Sheffield. Family Nurses explain how Baby Basics supports and helps their clients in this video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26DASlI2s6g

Our vision is based on Matthew 25:37-40:

"Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'

One of the key things Baby Basics does is put together and deliver new born starter packs. These packs are Moses baskets filled with newborn essentials for vulnerable mums. We are always in need of:

maternity pads
sanitary towels
hand soap
baby soap
baby shampoo
mum shampoo
knickers for mums
breast pads
newborn nappies
baby wipes
moses baskets
newborn clothing
towels
sheets and blankets.
